Oil Painting: Magic of Maine Woods and Waters

Been dreaming about an island retreat full of peace and painting? In this small class (not more than 12) we'll paint where the classic Maine woods of balsam, birch, ferns, mosses and lichens meet the rocky, sea-weedy, barnacled coast. You'll have an abundance of land and seascapes of drama and intimacy. The flood tide of summer light is still high, and light sparkles off the water into the mysterious depths of this magical forest. You'll paint a lot, with a morning demo and talk and attention and supportive critique as you need it. During the first few days, you'll work on several quick studies concentrating on composition and value, as you get a feel for the island. The rest of the week you can develop one or two of the quick studies into more finished paintings, or keep working quickly. Evenings are for relaxing, painting, reading, surf watching, sleeping, good conversation... and one night, Susan will give a slide talk about her life as an island artist. This is a week to go deeply into your work, to have the sound of the sea, the birds and the wind as your accompaniment, to eat fine food, relax and learn at your own pace. Susan is an accomplished painter and teacher and acutely sensitive to this beautiful setting and to the needs of her students...truly a week of magic!

Instructor Profile:  Susan Beebe

Susan spent 16 years living and painting on a secluded Maine island; she knows this scenery well and her fluid, juicy and powerful work reflects its drama and beauty. To learn more about Susan, please visit www.susanbeebestudio.com.
