Writing with Nature and a Sense of Place, with Linda Buckmaster

There is nothing like an island for writing.  Come to Whitehead Island, located in the Mussel Ridge Channel at the entrance to Penobscot Bay, to explore, write, and relax at a classic Maine island light station.

Writing about a place includes any of the elements that make a specific place what it is. It can include the layers of history, nature, human culture, and the built environment across time. A sense of place can help us ground our writing on any topic. At the Light Station, participants will practice this aspect of the craft while writing in plein air along the rocky shoreline, woods, and fields on the island and in cozy spots in the Lightkeeper's House.

This course is open to writers and aspiring writers at any level. Participants will engage in writing exercises and prompts to practice the writer's toolkit of image, voice, language, structure, and more. This will be a safe, supportive environment that recognizes there is no such thing as a mistake in writing, just the next draft.

Optional individual manuscript consultations with Linda are available for additional fee.
