Whitehead Light Station is opening its doors the public once again as part of Maine Open Lighthouse Day on Saturday, Sept 14th. The Whitehead keeper's house, whistle house, school house and light tower will all be open for viewing from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM. Complimentary transportation to Whitehead Island will be provided from the mainland for the first 50 people who RSVP. The embarkation and debarkation point is Lyman's Landing near the Burnt Island Bridge just past McLoon's on Sprucehead Island. Guests are invited to bring a picnic lunch and make themselves at home in the Adirondack chairs, on the smooth rocks by the ocean, and in the cozy sitting rooms of the keeper's house. Light refreshments will be provided. Please wear comfortable shoes, as there is a short walk on a gravel path from the dock to the lighthouse.
