A Culinary Immersion of New England Food, Beer, and Wine with Kate Baker & Suzanne Schalow
Come explore and learn about New England food, cooking, and how to cook and pair with excellent beer, and a little wine, too!
Chef Kate has been cooking for over 30 years in various kitchens around the northeast. Her latest project is a special place in Belmont, MA: Trinktisch, A Beer Hall for All, which showcases inviting and accessible European-flared food that pair well with some of the best beer in the world! A Certified Cicerone® and aspiring author, Kate is going to show you all of her secrets to the culinary heart.
Suzanne & Kate met in 2002, in the restaurant business, of course. They married in 2010 and by the time of this momentous occasion, they had both fallen deeply in-love with excellent beer! They Co-Founded Craft Beer Cellar in late 2010, when they opened the original location. Kate holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management. Suzanne holds Bachelor’s and Master's Degrees in Liberal Studies and Conflict Transformation. Suzanne continues to work toward obtaining the highly coveted title of Master Cicerone®, with exams: tasting, oral, and written, peppering her landscape over the next couple of years.
It turns out New England is a great place for excellent beer, creating styles such as the New England IPA, which has the world stopped in its tracks and watching what our brewers are doing. But it goes beyond this hazy beer style, to other beers and styles that are grabbing the attention of a global audience of beer drinkers. Allagash, Treehouse, Hill Farmstead, Fox Farm, Tilted Barn, Wunderkammer Bier, Deciduous, and Schilling Brewery are all producing head-turning liquid, just to name a few.
Time on the island will be filled with cooking, pairing, good beer, and some wine – yes they love wine, too and are bringing along a special producer from Rhode Island!
There will be discussion about flavor and experimenting with various food items that help you better understand taste and aroma, which is ultimately important when trying to understand what beers and wines you like, which ones you don't, and why.
Come prepared to have some culinary fun with Kate & Suzanne. Amazing meals will be put together evolving around excellent beer and wine. Additionally, they will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about a handful of producers in the New England market that they think are worth your time and you should be seeking out. They'll teach you about beer styles, glassware, and when to toss it all out the window and simply enjoy.
