Craft Beer Appreciation
Charlie Papazian has led many craft beer programs at Whitehead Light Station, sharing his expertise and leading conversations on beer and brewing with an emphasis on celebrating America's remarkable beer journey. Courses often include a field trip to nearby Maine breweries and are always are a fun learning experience.
Lighthouses of New England
This long-weekend program includes talks on the fascinating history of New England's lighthouses, with a focus on the dramatic and colorful stories of the lives of lighthouse keepers and their families. Multimedia presentations included many recent photos along with historic images and video clips.
Poetry on a Maine Island
There is nothing like an island for writing. Come to Whitehead Island to explore, write, and relax at a classic Maine island light station. Maine islands have a long tradition of inspiring poets of all kinds and Whitehead is a special place for inspiration.
Blues Guitar Workshop
Blues guitar teacher, performer and author Scott Ainslie has brought his decades of experience to lead a program for blues guitarists. Private instruction time, group jam sessions and evening performances are all part of this fun event.
Island Yoga
There is no better place for an in depth yoga retreat. Enjoy outdoor yoga by the sea on the rocks or inside the whistle house "studio" space. Whitehead Light Station is a spectacularly scenic and serene setting for such an experice.
The Mindfulness Practice
Our mindfulness courses are open to everyone who wants to learn how to safely manage stress, pain, illness, and the challenges inherent in everyday modern life. The training in mindfulness aims to develop an in-depth skill in moment-by-moment awareness that becomes the platform for embarking on a journey of self-development, self-discovery, learning, and healing.
Couples Connecting: A Mindfulness Weekend for Couples
In this weekend retreat, attendees explore what it means to be connected to ourselves as one and with another as two—sometimes in delightful harmony, other times in conflict. As we open to the present moment with whatever life has to offer, we learn by sharing that being present together offers a way to grow a relationship.
Oil Painting: Magic of Maine Woods and Waters
Led by an instructor with many years of painting experience, a group will paint where the classic Maine woods of spruce, balsam, birch, ferns, mosses and lichens meet the rocky, seaweedy, barnacled coast. You'll have an abundance of land and seascapes of drama and intimacy.
Stack of Books Week
Join a few other lucky folks for five nights at Whitehead Light Station, one of the most restful and beautiful places on the entire Maine coast, to unplug, rest, eat well, read, and live by the sea. While you are in residence, there will be a number of opportunities to participate in different activities, all of which will be 100% optional. This is a chance to catch up on your reading or just relax.
Nursing Master Course
This two-day intensive workshop will help nurses hone their skills in
teamwork/teambuilding and conflict resolution. The workshop will focus on the non-negotiables of teamwork—introductions, briefs and
debriefs, creating quick teams, and dealing with conflicts not only between nurses and physicians, but also among RNs and between RNs,
nursing assistants, and clerical and housekeeping staff.
Wine and Food Pairing
In this weekend course, which will focus on wines of the new world, attendees will learn how to properly taste wines, identify the underlying richness of each vintage and pair them effectively with different foods to enhance the dining experience.
Farm-to-Fork Getaway
This four day program celebrates the bounty of Midcoast Maine farms and fisheries as you enjoy delicious meals prepared with locally sourced ingredients paired with tastings from local vineyards and breweries. During this stay at the historic Whitehead Light Station there will be time to walk the island trails, climb the rocks, read from our library, knit in an Adirondack chair and learn about local foraging . . . all while enjoying the ever-changing ocean view.
