Rental Policies

Rental Policies
During the first season of the Whitehead Light Station, the Station will be available for rent by individuals for three six-day sessions in July, and for the Labor Day weekend.  Facilities rental cost covers transportation to and from Whitehead Island, parking on the mainland, and the possibility of excursions in the Biscuit in local waters. The rental cost includes the services of a skipper, who will be in residence full-time to drive the boat and assist you in any way he or she can. Bedding and linens are provided.

Payment Terms
The rental fee is described on the 2008 Availability page.   A deposit of half the rental fee is due with your registration form.  The balance is due 60 days before the start of the start of the rental.  If you book your rental within 60 days of the commencement of the rental period, the full rental fee is due upon booking.

Withdrawal Terms
If you have to cancel your rental more than 60 days before the start of the rental period, the balance of any rental fee already paid will be refunded to you, minus a $200 processing fee.  If you cancel less than 60 days before the start of the rental period, the rental fee (minus a $200 processing fee) will be refunded only if we are able to rent the Light Station for that period.

Medical Care
At least one WLS staff member will have Wilderness First Responder or EMT certification. Routine first aid provided by this staff member is included in tuition. In the event of a more serious injury, WLS staff will provide transportation to the mainland and from there to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockland, or will engage ambulance care on the mainland or emergency evacuation services if the situation warrants it. All expenses for outside medical care are your responsibility.

Acknowledgement of Risk
Participants acknowledge that Whitehead Light Station programs take place in a remote setting, and there is a risk of serious physical injury inherent in participation in programs in such settings.

Belongings
Whitehead Light Station is not responsible for participants' belongings or equipment while in transit or at WLS facilities.
